A New World Symphony tradition returns this April when LA Opera’s Lina González-Granados conducts concertos for harp, trumpet and violin performed by the winners of New World’s annual Concerto Showcase Competition.
Praised for her “ferocious” and “lithe” playing (Cleveland Classical) with “soaring tone and precision of the highest order” (South Florida Classical Review), Violin Fellow Beatrice Hsieh takes center stage for Korngold’s Violin Concerto, evoking the glamour and sophistication of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
On the heels of a sold-out solo performance, Harp Fellow Abigail Kent has won acclaim for their “immaculate playing and musical sensitivity” (Fanfare Magazine). She performs Ginastera’s intricate harp concerto inspired by Bartók, Stravinsky and Argentinian folk dances.
Trumpet Fellow Kenneth Chauby has performed with orchestras and ensembles around the world and recently won a job with the prestigious United States Air Force Ceremonial Brass. He makes Tomasi’s notoriously difficult trumpet concerto look easy, showing the full range of the instrument with music inspired by Bach and jazz.
